Alka Translations Monthly Status Report: February 2020

Hello everyone! Happy early Valentine’s Day and Happy February! It definitely doesn’t feel like it’s been nearly a month since the last update post. What’s changed in a month, you ask? What’s new? Well, I’m here to tell you!

Regarding Angel Beats, we haven’t COMPLETELY put it on hiatus while we finish up Summer Pockets. Progress is still being made. Kitaro and Danshi are working on translating the menus and various images so that once it comes time to start testing and editing, we’ll have fully functional English menus! The translation work will resume on it once Summer Pockets is done and dear Translator the Saitou has taken a well deserved break.

Speaking of Saitou and Summer Pockets, we are one text file away from having a 100% translated Alka route! He’s been doing great work. With that being said, I’d like to make a formal announcement! Usually I give you guys estimates on when a patch will be out. But that doesn’t feel right, this time. So mark your calendars. The final patch, when “partial” becomes “complete” shall be February 17th! That’s right, a bona fide release date! If testing & editing finishes earlier than that, we’ll release it earlier, but that’s the deadline, the big circled date.

On the staff side of things, if you or anyone you know has a decent understanding of Japanese and would like to join as an assistant translator, contact me on Discord. Discord is a requirement as that’s where we operate out of. Saitou will be handling the brunt of the work, but it’d be nice to have him work with someone else to handle side content files as well as exchanging feedback to make Angel Beats the best translation it could be.

Lastly but not least, I have some bad(?) news, depending on your perspective. Let’s not mince words, we’re making pretty insanely fast progress on Summer Pockets, and good quality progress for how fast it is. Not tooting our own horn, just being matter-of-fact here. However, in the ever-present effort of transparency, I’m going to make it clear right here. Don’t expect this level of speed with Angel Beats. Don’t worry, don’t worry, we aren’t going to slow our pace to a crawl and you should still expect Angel Beats to be done sooner rather than later, but translating an entire visual novel is hard work. So once Summer Pockets is a wrap and we’re focusing fully on Angel Beats, don’t expect a whole lot outside of Twitter updates and the monthly status reports. I’ll be sure and post stuff on Twitter from time to time so that you can be assured in more than just our words that progress is continuing. The wait will be over before you know it!

That’s all for this monthly update. As always, thanks for your support, patience and hospitality. Follow us on Twitter if you haven’t already, and the next time you hear from us on this site, it’ll be to tell you that it’s finally time for summer vacation on Torishirojima. Until then!

I remember you mentioned a few months ago that there’s some text from the Shimamon fight minigame that hasn’t been translated to english yet. Do you guys intend to complete the translation of it and release with the final patch or just leave it as is?

That’s still up in the air at this point. We’d like to, it’ll just depend on what needs to be done and where our priorities need to be at the time
